A dependable and reliable car, the Octavia will do you well if all you want is cheap family transport. 1.6 TDi has plodding performance, but does a good 50 - 60 mpg. Tax and insurance are reasonable. Service/repairs are as expensive as any car these days.
Skoda Yeti. EGR Valve cleaning. Firstly, many thanks to the posters on here and elsewhere who have documented the EGR issues, and solutions. My 2010 2.0 110 Yeti 130k miles started showing the management light and some times heater plug light. Car always drove very fine, but this is MOT fail.

Has to be accessed from below. Exhaust & DPF haveto come off. Plus much of the other plumbing and components in that area, even just to get near the EGR valve.
to remove turbo first take the exhaust pipe off underneath. 5mm allen key. under bonnet remove plastic air inlet pipe and air filter assy. remove boost pipe and throttle flap assy. remove egr valve. reaching down back remove egr cooler and feed pipes. remove inlet manifold. remove exhaust manifold complete with turbo.

Have got a 2 year old 2.0 tdi se 4x4 DSG. 22,000 miles. Owned since new. Second Yeti I have had. (5th Skoda in the last 12 years, so a big fan until now!) EGR valve problems started last October. Engine kept going into "limp home" mode on long journeys. After overnight stop the car was always fine. Took it to the dealer who could not find a fault.
